UKanTeach Steering Committee Meeting

Meeting: UKanTeach Steering Committee Meeting

Dr. Steve Case

Anyone who has an interest in STEM education at KU is welcome to attend. This is a consensus working group to oversee the UKanTeach STEM teacher preparation program. The KU Center for Science Educations UKanTeach program originated as a partnership between the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the School of Education and KS school districts to develop the next generation of mathematics and science teachers. The program was launched in spring 07 and is/was a part of a National Math and Science Initiative grant to be a part of this national effort that now includes 26 universities. Students complete their degree in mathematics and/or science, and the UKanTeach coursework to obtain a secondary teaching license as part of this four-year program of study. UKanTeach is dramatically increasing the number of potential mathematics and science teachers graduating from KU. More importantly, these students are being prepared to teach in significantly new and effective ways. This committee oversees this effort.
